Many farmers do not realize the value of the equipment they own or what their real liability exposures are until we meet with them to complete their equipment inventory list. Equipment normally is purchased over a period of years and unless the insurance agent checks in from time to time, most is not included on the insurance policy. If not taken care of, this could result in a major financial loss because it may not be covered without notification. As for crop insurance, it should be part of the farm operating budget each year. With the government subsidy given, the premium has become affordable for most farmers. It is true you may not have a claim each year but when you do, the insurance coverage will be there.
